Snooker Tables, Pool TablesLooking for a great home snooker, pool or billiards table? Well, if you enjoy one of these games, you may certainly want to own your very own table. After all, it's much easier to set up your own game than it is to head down to a local pub to play. Plus, owning your own table can provide you with plenty of practice if you plan on playing at the professional level or in amateur tournaments. Types of GamesThere are many different types of pool and billiards out there, but the three main types are snooker, billiards and pool. Depending on which you play, you may need a table with pockets or one without. Some tables have special covers that allow you to covert between the two, but most either have pockets or do not. Billiards has a number of different variants, and most use two cue balls and one coloured object ball. Depending on the version, a player may need to hit the other cue ball, the object ball, and a number of cushions or railings to score points. Pool, on the other hand, is played with 15 coloured balls and only one cue ball. The goal here is to knock all of the solids or all of the stripes into the pockets without sinking the eight ball until the very end. Snooker is a UK version of the game that uses a cue ball, 15 red balls, and a number of other coloured balls. Each colour is worth various points. One of the objects of the game is to get your opponent to snooker, or make a foul move, in order to score more points. Types of TablesIn addition to selecting the correct table for you, you'll also want to consider a few other things. The first is how large of a table you want. Pool tables, for example, come in sizes starting at six foot and going all the way up to nine foot. However, only eight and nine foot tables are used in tournaments, so that may affect your decision. Snooker tables actually have various sized pockets, with smaller pockets obviously making the game more difficult. Likewise, the covering of a snooker table can be thicker. The thicker the covering, the less responsive and the slower the balls will roll. However, the covering will last longer. With all tables, you have to decide what material you want the bed (the actual playing surface) to be made out of. Slate is the regulation bed material in almost all tournaments of all types, but you may want a cheaper alternative if you have no desire to compete. Don't Forget the AccessoriesFinally, you'll need to remember that you've got to purchase more than just a pool, billiards, or snooker table. You may need extra cues, a cue rack, chalk, and more. Check out our completely list of different game accessories before you head out to purchase your table so you know what else you'll need to get. Sometimes, tables come with balls and other accessories, but sometimes you have to purchase them separately. Other UK Home & Leisure Guides
