What to Consider When Buying a TableAre you thinking about buying a billiards, snooker, or pool table for your home? Well, purchasing any of these is a great way of providing entertainment for both yourself and all of your friends. Plus, it can even save you some money in the long run since you won't be going out to pubs to play (and spend money on drinks!). But there are a few things you will want to consider before your purchase your table. First, where are you going to put it? These tables are rather large—if you buy a tournament regulation sized pool table, for example, you'll be purchasing an eight or nine foot table (2.43 metres or 2.74 metres, respectively). That's going to take up a good amount of room. You have to remember that you also need the space to pull back your cue stick to make shots, and that can require another meter to a meter and a half of room. This means you'll need to have a room that is about 5 metres long and at least 4 metres wide, if not larger. You also need to consider windows. While it may not happen often, it is possible that someone will put a cue stick through a window or accidentally send a ball flying off the table. Rooms with many windows, then, aren't really the best place to put a billiards table. This is especially true if you have children who will want to play around with it. If you aren't that concerned with broken glass, then there's no worry, but if you want to avoid replacing windows, think of placing your billiards table in a room with few glass panes. Another thing to think about is whether or not you'll ever want to compete professionally. While it might sound like an odd decision to make right away, it can save you money later. If you think you may want to professionally play pool, billiards, or snooker or that you may want to compete in an amateur tournament, you will want to look for a regulation sized table. This way, you won't need to upgrade your table later, thus saving you that cost. You may also want to consider various other options for your billiards table. Some tables actually come with covers and other interchangeable pieces that allow you to convert your billiards table to an air hockey table or a dining table. Some can be changed into a nice table for playing poker on, while others feature covers for the pockets to turn a pool table into a billiards table. Some of these multipurpose tables are not made as well as tables made specifically for one type of game, but they are more useful. Again, it depends on what you want out of your billiards table and how much use you'll get out of it. It also often depends on your budget, too. A high-quality, tournament regulation table is often going to be more expensive. |
